Two Homes

A message greets me at the old playground

A message greets me at the old playground

We’re driving on the BQE over the Verrazano and there’s the skyline and the Williamsburg Bank Building that’s neither in Williamsburg nor a bank. There’s the Brooklyn Bridge. We park and he’s hoisting her up on his shoulders, they’re beaming in the sunshine. The perfect lox and bagel, and then we’re back in the old ‘hood, the blocks where she was our baby. We see our friends, and the women from daycare that raised her, and the children she grew with, and he says it’s hard to be back but I am glowing because we have two homes, now.

This is day 24 in my year of writing about beauty.
